A pier cap shutter serves a similar purpose as a pile cap shutter but is specifically designed for constructing pier caps. Pier caps are horizontal structural elements that sit on top of bridge piers or columns to support the bridge deck or beams. Pier caps transfer the load from the bridge or structure to the supporting piers. The pier cap shutter is assembled around the pier head, creating a mold for pouring and shaping the concrete. It provides support and containment for the poured concrete and ensures that the reinforcing steel bars are properly positioned. Once the concrete has cured, the shutter is dismantled or removed, leaving behind a solid pier cap.
